In academics, training programmes conducted for developing skills of faculties and teachers are generally called Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) or Management Development Programme (MDPs). The FDPs or MDPs, designed for teachers, researchers and corporate managers help them to enhance their skills and update their capabilities to keep pace with the changing management practices. As there were no such programmes in the field of LIS, MANLIBNET has initiated Librarian Development Programmes, i.e.LDPs for librarians and information professional community. MANLIBNET strongly believes that such LDPs would help the LIS professionals to sharpen their technical and managerial skills.
MANLIBNET provides a common forum to the LIS professionalsto develop mutual understanding and co-operation particularly among management and business libraries. The Librarian Development Programmes (LDPs) are one of the major milestones of MANLIBNET activities towards the professional and educational enhancement of LIS professionals. The first one day MANLIBNET workshop for LIS professionals was organized in September 2008 at the BRCM college of Business Administration, Surat. The second two-daysLDP was organized by IWSB, Greater Noidain September 2011. The course work of LDP is designed in a manner that provides a unique opportunity to the participants in developing their expertise in managing various library systems and services. Ultimately, such programmes would help the LIS professionals to perform their duties effectively in their respective places of work.
